Background: Two weeks ago I started experiencing pain in one of my molars. It started as mild sensitivity when eating, then steadily got worse, until it was a throbbing pain every time I moved my mouth (even if I wasn’t chewing on that side) and a persistent soreness at all other times.
I originally thought it was an infection that had spread from a root canal I had done right before lockdown, so I scheduled a virtual appointment with my dentist and she prescribed me antibiotics.
However, upon re-examining the tooth tonight, I realized the source of the problem is more likely a crack in the tooth. This would make more sense, since I haven’t experienced any significant swelling or bad breath, and couldn’t find any bumps in my gums that might indicate an abscess.
Should I continue to stick to my antibiotics course as a preventative measure until I can get back in touch with my dentist? I started 3 days ago and haven’t noticed any improvement (the situation has actually gotten worse over the past 48 hours). I prefer to avoid antibiotics in general unless they’re absolutely necessary.
If it helps, here’s a photo of the tooth in question - it’s the one furthest back: https://imgur.com/a/dNvfKTK
