Burned gums after eating hot food. Help please.

I tried to take a photo of the area but I could not get a clear image.

2 days ago, I was stupid and I tried to eat food that pretty much came right out the oven. I’d burned my mouth with hot food before but this was the most painful experience I’ve ever had with hot food. I rinsed my mouth with cold water. Brushed my teeth like usual that night. Didn’t think much of it but I had a slight fever before going to bed- I dunno if that was because of the injury or not.

Anyway, I didn’t realize how bad I burned myself until looking at the area the next day (yesterday). The area is very red in some places and there is a dime-sized white patch where my gums meet my tooth. It’s difficult to explain the appearance- it looks like a lesion but it does not look like a canker sore. I had a little sensitivity in the area but not much pain. I also had a headache and carried a high temperature very close to a fever all day. I took a Tylenol and I made sure to rinse with warm salt water, but I fear Im treating the injury too late.

I’m going to call my dentist in a few hours but I don’t think they will be able to see me due to COVID19. How can I be sure the area is without infection and is healing?
