I think my lower teeth (jaw?) are too narrow, causing the bottom and top on the right side of my teeth to meet more/align better than the bottom row. My midline is off, where the center of the bottom row is shifted maaaaybe a millimeter to the right. So, a crossbite.
Also my top incisors extrude over my bottom row of teeth. A little bit less than half of the bottom front teeth show with a closed bite. I also had a root canal and then a crown at the same tooth on one of the middle teeth of my top row, on the left side. I still have all my teeth. And never had my wisdom teeth removed. There was never any pain and dentists have never told me there was any concern about them, though maybe I can ask.
Also, how can my jaw have contributed to this, or this contributed to jaw pain or misalignment.
Additionally, I have TMJ and I notice it far more on the right -- both in terms of fullness of my jaw on the right and pain & tension.
Also, I feel the extrusion of the top row might be the cause of my top lip being a little thin, tucking in a bit when my lips are closed. Does that belief have any real merit? I also have a chin dimple, ha, kind of wondering how that is affected by this i.e. the affect this has on muscles surrounding the mouth.
What are the treatments for this? I was reading that the bottom teeth can dig into the gums behind the incisors in this cause, potentially causing tooth loss. In this case I may wear the OTC mouth guard my maxilofacial doctor recommended. But to restructure my bite, I would like some form of braces. One concern I have is my age. I am 30 and I do have weak enamel. This really worries me. I thought that Invisalign would be a good option for that; however, I saw that it may not be. At the very least, with Invisalign, there are a few hours in the day that I could apply a sensitive toothpaste better than with traditional metal and rubber braces. Also I have seen mouth braces that are just metal between the teeth only, to correct jaw and bite issues (malocclusion), I think. I was wondering if that may benefit me.
It seems as though my city will be opening up soon so that I may go to an orthodontist. Since I cannot go at this time, I would really appreciate some advice. Thank you.
