If you have mild enamel loss, if you start taking care of your teeth does it prevent it from getting worse or do your teeth just decay no matter what?

Up until this year and last year I really never cared about dental health so I would never brush (I know, it’s bad and I shouldn’t have done that) but now I see I might have enamel loss/erosion because my teeth are yellow, a little rough on the edges, and have translucent edges. It’s not extremely bad and my teeth aren’t too sensitive and they are not chipping or cupping but I wanted to know if taking care of my teeth can prevent further loss and possible decay. Or if it will happen regardless, or if I absolutely need to get treatment at the dentist, like crowns or bonding. I use fluoride toothpaste and my brush is not too hard bristled. Will I need treatment along side?
