Obviously not a dentist and also not from the US. Used to have a bad overbite, got tons of different orthodontic treatments before eventually getting braces in my teens. Now my teeth are mostly aligned (granted they'd look better if I'd worn my retainer more growing up), but still had to deal with a very bad overbite until the dentist taught me how jaws are actually supposed to be positioned about four years ago at 20.
So my question is, how do braces help fix overbites exactly? Or better, why didn't mine get fixed on its own once my teeth were aligned? Is it possible for overbites to be caused by nothing more than some bad posture that seemingly came out of nowhere, as that seems to be what eventually fixed mine (if it can actually be considered so)?
You can even see it in pictures of me as a baby, like a few days old.
Thanks in advance to everyone for answering. Might want to get it fixed properly one day and would like to know what might be the cause.
