exploiting the tooth interface

I néed an implant or the like on a rear tooth and as a technologist it bothers me that I can't do something more useful with this situation than superfluous cosmetics.

I don't need something that looks like a tooth or even something that needs to be there all the time I've gone for long stretches with the tooth missing.

A bio monitoring device even or just a cool gizmo would rocket me to the dentist's chair so I wonder: is this sort of thing a thing?
