I have an annoying degree of translucency with my two front teeth - I'm told it's only noticeable if you're looking for it, but it's very apparent to me and more so when under harsh lighting - where I can place my tongue behind my teeth and effect the colour of the teeth. I believe a history of coffee, carbonated water consumption and sugar caused the translucency - I take better care of my teeth now, removing the likely source of the issue.
The translucency effects pretty much the bottom third of my teeth (rather than just the edge) and it's become an insecurity that I'd love to resolve. I have been to a dentist who recommended a resin bond - but I'd like to see if I can improve things a little without the implications of the resin (colour matching, the need to get it redone in a few years, the cost etc). I'd be very happy with a ~25% improvement for example.
In my reading I came across Novamin as the 'only' way to actually 'rebuild enamel' (even if its an enamel like material) - it's included within Sensodyne 'Repair and Protect' toothpaste here in the UK. For all it's praise online, I'm struggling to find any information on how effective it actually is, what the expected results are or any before/after photos. So my questions are:
-
Should I expect Novamin to help with any noticeable improvement to tooth translucency? (if so, how long should results be expected when brushing twice daily with a Novamin toothpaste?)
-
Has anyone had success with Novamin and able to comment specifically on how it helped matters? (better yet, can photos be provided?)
-
I only recently came across Novamin, despite casually researching methods to help make the translucency less noticeable - is there any other effective methods I should be aware of?
Thank you ✨
