Is it okay to go back to old retainers?

I had braces in middle school and have worn retainers ever since high school. I’m a senior in college now, and about 1-2 years ago my dentist told me my retainers were old and I needed new ones. There was a chip in the back of the bottom one but they were very secure and I wore them religiously (my old pair were from the orthodontist and my new ones were from my dentist).

The new ones I received felt a lot looser, specifically the bottom one which I can easily pop out with my tongue and felt like it was barely holding my teeth. The dentist said that they were a great fit so I trusted in them and have been wearing the new ones. However I’ve noticed recently my two middle bottom teeth not looking perfectly straight anymore, and slightly the same with my top teeth.

I will bring it up to my dentist the next time I visit, but is it okay to go back to my old retainers that I haven’t worn for a few years? I tried them on and they fit tight and may hurt a little, but I am wondering if it is okay to wear these or if there’s a potential to mess my teeth up even more. Thanks so much!!
