Hi guys,
For quite some time I have brown spots/tartar between my teeth. I went to get a professional cleaning 4 times in the past 2 years and none of the professionals or dentists could tell me why I have such a fast build up of tartar. They just say I should pay attention to food, that are known to stain teeth.
But the thing is - I've been drinking coffee, black tea and green tea for 15 years and only for like two years have I experienced this fast build up. In fact, before that period of two years I have never been to a professional cleaning because I never had any built up, just really minimal things which my dentist removed during the checkups. Besides a few fillings my teeth are overall pretty good. I don't eat a lot of sugary stuff and replaced sugar with xylitol in any baking or drinks and floss every day. I never had any problems with gum bleeding or gum disease in general. For the last 5 years 3 different dentists told me that my teeth are in very good condition (besides the stains).
Only currently I realized that the only thing that changed in my diet is the adding of plant based milks to my coffee. I drink about 3 cups of coffee and use up to half a pack. This kind of plant based milk contains added calcium. I consume about 300 - 600 mg tricalciumphosphat per day. Strangely enough my front teeth, which are exposed to my milk-coffee the most, have the most stains.
So I was wondering if the plant milks (especially the calcium) could cause or at least enhance the build up of tartar.
Any ideas?
Just as a side info: I live in a country without fluoride in our tap water. I don't use toothpaste with fluoride, because certain ingredients in those toothpastes cause me to have throat pain.
